NAED Releases Executive Summary and Executive Brief of Electrification Study

NAED’s comprehensive study on Electrification shows substantial opportunities for the industry to power the future, however, success will require strategy and partnerships throughout the supply chain. The study’s Executive Summary and Executive Briefing are now available, with additional reports on individual sectors such as data centers that will be available over the next several weeks.

All reports of the study are free to all NAED-member companies.

NAED worked with market research firm Ducker Carlisle, along with a Member & Leadership Steering Committee and the association’s Education & Research Foundation Board to complete the first-ever study on electrification for NAED members.

The study delivers valuable insights to better understand:

  • What’s driving electrification – and what may disrupt it
  • The most promising project areas for distributors
  • How to strategically scale and prepare your team

The executive summary shows opportunity in electrification projects is substantial, with a majority of that opportunity in small and medium-scale projects where distributor capabilities are highly valued. It also points out that Electrification projects are becoming more complex and will require new and different value from distributors.

“Customers require a greater degree of technical support throughout product lifecycles. Ongoing training is critical,” one distributor told researchers. Another added, “An old-school approach to complex projects doesn’t work. We need multiple touchpoints from specialists, technicians, and project management.”

The research shows distributors will need to build new capabilities to provide and capture value in this evolving ecosystem to take advantage of gaps in the value chain. It recommends distributors focus resources on targeted sectors, stock selected products, build capabilities to succeed, and prioritize strategically rather than spreading resources. The research provides NAED members with 5 keys for prioritizing opportunities, including defining your “core” within an intersection of products and solutions to target customers.

All NAED members can download the Executive Summary and Executive Brief by going to the NAED e-store through the Electrification webpage at naed.org/electrification. You will need to log into your account to receive the Executive Summary and Executive Briefing for free. The individual reports highlighting specific sectors like residential, commercial and industrial, utility, and transportation can also be downloaded for free over the next several weeks.

The NAED Education and Research Foundation would like to thank the current and legacy companies of the Channel Advantage Partnership (CAP). Since 2003, they have dedicated their time and resources to the NAED Foundation’s research and education initiatives.
