DURHAM, N.C. — Cree, Inc. announced the extension of its partnership with World Champion, two-time Olympic gold medalist and highest all-time international goal scorer, Abby Wambach, in concert with her recent retirement. Wambach and Cree have teamed up again to emphasize the importance of determination, innovation and performance — on and off the field.
Cree and Abby will work together to recognize and celebrate those who never stop challenging the status quo and accept nothing but victory on the road to a better way, including Cree’s mission for better lighting in North America. In this spirit, Cree is celebrating Wambach’s outstanding career as a game-changer with the launch of a tribute video (click here or on insert below), in which family, friends, teammates and fans from around the world took the opportunity to honor her empowering spirit with a thank-you.
“As I look to what’s next in my career, I’m inspired by opportunities to achieve collective greatness. Cree’s mission and my mission are similar. We both want to be the best at what we do, so we can help others achieve a future with better life experiences,” said Wambach.
Earlier this year, Cree debuted a Wambach-featured video that exemplifies the alignment of two missions: Wambach’s to win a championship with her team and Cree’s to eliminate bad light on the way to 100 percent LED adoption. Fans were able to follow her journey and join Cree’s #LightABetterWay campaign by engaging with dynamic footage and social conversation.
“As a world champion, Abby embodies that potent combination of determination and drive that is well-aligned with Cree’s culture, and there is no better time to continue our push to inspire others with the power of better light,” said Betty Noonan, Cree chief marketing officer. “Abby breaks barriers and so does Cree. She is a natural fit to help us champion our belief that good enough is simply not enough.”
